The light gauge railway then carries passengers to Arosa ski resort from here, arriving 9.09. You will be skiing by 10.00.
By car from Calais, the quickest route takes in the cities of Reims, Metz, Strasbourg, and Zürich along major autoroutes and autobahns. From Zürich, the A-3/13 autobahn goes to Chur, from where the mountain road to Arosa is signposted (984kms; ten hours).
From Zürich International Airport, take the A-11 autobahn, drive under the city and on to the Chur (A-3) autobahn, and then take the winding road to Arosa ski resort (160kms; two to three hours); snow chains will be required.
Location
Chalet Runca (400 metres squared living) is set in the exclusive enclave of Wetterweide, in the high altitude Swiss resort of Arosa. It provides stunning panoramic views of the mountains heading the Schanfigg Valley.
The chalet is located only 400 metres (5 minutes walk) from town, and has well maintained footpaths all the way. The resort bus circulates around town, so guests of Chalet Runca can just walk out of the ski room's sensory electric doors, and onto the bus, to be on the Weisshorn ski lifts within five minutes.
Travel
Train travel from Zurich Airport, Eastern Switzerland, has been described as the loveliest airport transfer in Europe.

By Plane to Zurich Airport, Intercity to Chur, and by the Arosa Mountain Railway - 2.5 hours total.
Chur is the highest-altitude town in Switzerland. Arosa is one of the most beautiful places in Switzerland. A height difference of 1,000 metres separates the two places. And a wonderful one-hour train journey like no other.
BA connect flies from London City and London Gatwick, Heathrow and Manchester, direct to Zurich Airport.
Easyjet flies from London Luton, Birmingham, Bristol and Gatwick, direct to Zurich Airport and Milan. Also from Liverpool, Luton, Stansted and Amsterdam to Basel (Switzerland). Also from Edinburgh to Amsterdam. Tel: 08717500100
From Milan Airport, take the Bernina Express.
The Bernina Express is a train that connects Chur in Switzerland with Tirano in Italy. The Bernina Railway built the last bit of the line between 1908 and 1910. The journey on the Bernina Express is a 4 hour railway journey (140 kilometres)across 196 bridges, through 55 tunnels and across the Bernina Pass, the highest point at 2,253 metres in altitude. The 61 kilometre journey between St Moritz and Tirano takes roughly two and half hours. This part of the line is the original Bernina Line. Although the railway between Chur and Tirano has been used a long time, today's Bernina Express was started in 1973. The section between Thusis and Tirano has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The Bernina Express runs all year. It is run by Rhatische Bahn. The Bernina Express is quite popular, especially in summer so if you are on a tight schedule try to book in advance. Especially if you want to sit in one of the panorama coaches.
The starting point of the Bernina Express is Chur. Chur is generally considered to be the oldest town in Switzerland. The population of Chur is around 35,000, elevation 593 metres. Chur is the capital of the canton of Graubunden, the largest canton covering about a sixth of Switzerland. The Chur railway station is used both by SBB (serving most of Switzerland) and Rhatische Bahn (serving most of Graubunden) SBB uses the standard gauge, 1435 mm, while Rhatische Bahn uses the narrow gauge, 1000 mm.
Chur is a splendid place for the train enthusiast with many interesting railway lines. You can take the Arosa Express from Chur, the train journey to Arosa takes an hour. It is a steep climb up to Arosa, with plenty of nice views. Note that the train to Arosa departs from the tracks just outside the railway station. The Glacier Express is another famous train journey that starts in Chur or St. Moritz.
The first part of the Bernina Express runs along the Rhine. Due to the strategic location of the Rhine valley, you will see many old castles and ruins. The tallest bridge is the Solis Bridge but the Landwasser Viaduct is better known. The latter has a length of 136 metres and a height of 65 metres. It has six huge stone arches and is slightly curved.
In 1904, thanks to the Albula tunnel, the railway connected St. Moritz with Chur. Before that the journey from Chur to St. Moritz took 15 hours by stagecoach. Thanks to the railway line, St. Moritz became an exclusive winter resort. The Bernina Express from Chur does not go to St. Moritz, you need to change trains in Samedan if you want to visit St Moritz. In summer, you can walk from Pontresina to St Moritz. It is possible to take a train from St Moritz to Tirano, this was the original Bernina Line.
Tirano is small town and most tourists either take the Bernina Express back to Chur/St. Moritz or continue by Italian train to Milan (takes 2.5 hours) In summer, you can take the bus to Lugano, a 3 hour bus ride. Although not as spectacular as the Bernina Express, it is a nice bus ride. In Lugano, you can take another scenic train journey to Lucerne. Remember to book your bus ticket in advance if you are planning on taking the bus.
Glacier Express: Advertised as the 'slowest express train in the world', the Glacier Express is also the most panoramic, and is a breathtaking way to experience the magnificence of the Swiss Alps. The seven and a half hour journey begins daily from Zermatt or St. Moritz.. The train can be taken in either direction, and if time is short it is possible to travel along a short section of the route, starting at Chur, (three hours to St. Moritz, 4.5 hours to Zermatt), but either way it is advisable to make advance bookings as the train is very popular. From Chur, there are several departures a day during summer and two a day in winter.
The red mountain train crosses more than 291 bridges, winds its way through 91 tunnels and seven valleys and over the 6,670ft (2,033m) Oberalp Pass, through Chur, and on to the resort of St Moritz, in a spectacular feat of mountain engineering. The train is equipped with large windows for clear viewing and the scenery, including mountain panoramas, quaint villages and wooden chalets, forests and alpine pastures, is stunning. A dining car provides lunch and the mini-bar contains tilted wine glasses to counter the lean of the carriages along the steep mountainous route.

The Swiss Railway is in a class of its own on the Zurich airport to Arosa route.
The above airlines fly regularly to Zürich, which is approximately two and a half hours by train or car, to Arosa.
The Arosa Railway begins its run, leisurely at first, in the town of Chur, rolling gently past the mediaeval old town and its 800-year-old cathedral. It then begins to snake up the ancient valley of Schanfigg, with its picturesque country villages and strange, primitive rock formations. The line then continues over the Langwieser Viaduct, which is 280 metres long and 60 metres high over the River Plessur. This is when the train starts it's weaving climb through the forest to then reach the openness of the Arosa Bowl.
